Community Acupuncture Sessions
FAQ’s & What to Expect
-
What is Community Acupuncture?
Community acupuncture involves treating multiple people simultaneously in a shared room. This approach offers the benefits of acupuncture in a welcoming and comfortable community environment at an affordable price. These sessions are ideal for preventive care and promoting overall wellness.
You will be treated while seated or lying in a comfortable recliner alongside other people. You will remain fully clothed and our licensed acupuncturists will only insert needles in places we can easily access––your arms, hands, lower legs, feet, head and ears.

What to Expect in the Session.
Here is a breakdown of what to expect. Please come in 5-10 minutes before the start of the session. You will check in at the desk, and fill out a brief summary of what you are seeking treatment for today. Then, you’ll be directed to a comfy recliner with a beautiful nature view!
The practitioner will speak to you briefly about your concerns, and then administer the acupuncture treatment. This can involve anywhere from 4-20 needles placed on your arms, legs, and/or head. You will remain fully clothed – please wear loose clothing that can be rolled up to the knee and elbow. You’ll rest comfortably with the needles in for 30-45min. There will be gentle quiet music and the lights will be dimmed.
Many people fall asleep during this time, meditate, or just listen to music and rest. Also, some patients snore during their sessions. If this bothers you, consider bringing earplugs or headphones. Some patients also bring their own pillows or blankets for extra comfort.
Please feel free to bring whatever you need to make your experience more comfortable.
Once the needles are in, you can relax for as long as you like––anywhere from 30 minutes to up to an hour. We won’t disturb you while you rest. But when you are ready to go, simply give us a wave and we’ll remove the needles before you leave. We also provide tea/water at the end of the session.

What can we Treat?
In the community treatment, it’s common for people to be treated for stress, headaches, neck, back or joint pain, digestive upset, fatigue, or trouble sleeping. But, nearly any condition can be treated here. The more complex your condition, the more likely you’ll be a better candidate for private treatment rather than community. But if that is not an option for you, we will do our best and see what can be done!
Also back pain doesn’t have to be treated by putting needles in the back! We often use points on the hand, head, and around the knees and elbows to effectively treat back pain.
We also have a detox treatment that can be requested as well.
Respect Everyone’s time. We’re able to offer acupuncture at an affordable rate because we are treating multiple patients in the group setting. While we always strive to provide the best care possible, we may not always have time for in-depth discussions about your health history, acupuncture techniques, pulse readings, or the specifics of each acupuncture point. We know many patients are interested in learning more, and we’re happy to provide reading materials for those who want more information or you can book a 1:1 personalized acupuncture session with Alexandra.

Is Insurance accepted?
Insurance is not accepted on the community acupuncture setting. These treatments do not meet the insurance definitions of acupuncture due to the group nature and brief contact spent with the practitioner. If you would like your acupuncture treatments to be submitted to your insurance, you will need to be treated on the private side. As such, we cannot provide coded receipts to be used for HSA/FSA reimbursement on the community treatments. However, we can provide charge receipts, and depending on your HSA/FSA carrier, this may be all they require for reimbursement.

Can I work/use my phone during the treatment?
Nope! Part of the healing comes from relaxing the body and mind while the needles do their work. Please leave all electronic devices in your car or turned completely off so there is no chance of disturbing the other patients. You are welcome to keep your phone with you on airplane mode if you’d like to use it for music (with headphones) during your treatment.
We also strongly request that you DO NOT take any photos of anyone in the group while going to your session. Although it’s a group session we hope that there will be respect for other people’s privacy.
Minimize conversation. In order to preserve a peaceful atmosphere in the treatment room, we ask that talking be kept to a minimum. If you need to have an in-depth conversation with a member of our team, please schedule it separately. We also ask that you refrain from chatting with others around you until after you leave the treatment room.
Next Group Session.
Group sessions are up to 6 people. Please make sure to wear loose, comfy clothing that can be rolled up to your elbows and knees.
